Web Editing
What is Web Editing?
This module offers candidates the opportunity to acquire an understanding of key web publishing concepts and the core skills required to design, create and maintain a static website, without having to commit time and valuable resources to a professional-level web design programme. Candidates learn a range of web design skills from HTML to cascading style sheets (CSS).
ECDL / ICDL Web Editing certifies that a candidate can:
- Understand key web concepts and terms
- Understand the basic principles of HTML and use common HTML mark-up tags to modify the layout of a web page
- Use a web authoring application to design and format web pages, format text, and work with hyperlinks and tables
- Recognise and use common web image formats and create forms in a web page
- Understand and use cascading style sheets (CSS)
- Prepare web pages for publishing to a web server
The ECDL Web Editing certification requires approximately 20-30 hours of tuition followed by successful completion of a simple 45 minute test.

ECDL Web Editing is the ideal product for:
- Small businesses who need a presence on the Web but do not have the resources to finance a large scale site
- Community groups who may need to communicate with their members while keeping costs as low as possible
- Second-level students who wish to share information and communicate with each other
- Individuals who wish to create personal Web sites, e.g. to stay in touch with friends and family or to pursue hobbies

Training
- ECDL Web Editing is offered to our students during the summer holidays.
- We also offer ECDL Web Editing courses and testing for the general public outside school hours. These courses can be organised on demand for groups of not less than 6 persons.
Testing
- The ECDL Web Editing test is undertaken at the computer at our accredited ECDL Test Centre. Candidates are provided with a test paper that contains a set of questions. Candidates work through these questions on the computer.
- The duration of each test is 45 minutes. No books or other help may be used during the tests.
- The tests are marked externally by ECDL Malta.
- The pass mark is set to be 75%.
- Candidates failing ECDL Web Editing tests are allowed to retake the test at the same Test Centre. Candidates are encouraged to attempt the sample test papers before taking the test.
- Candidates who are not satisfied with the assessment process of their ECDL Web Editing test are encouraged to discuss their concerns with the Test Centre. If they are not satisfied with the outcome of these discussions, they are encouraged to send an email/letter to ECDL Malta explaining their concerns. A fee will be charged for revision of tests.

Certification
The Web Editing certificate is awarded when a Candidate successfully passes the Web Editing test. The certificate will NOT be issued immediately by the Test Centre. ECDL Malta will issue the certificate and pass this on to the Test Centre where the test was held. Candidates will collect the certificate from the Test Centre where they had sat for their test. The fee involved in issuing the Web Editing certificate is incorporated in the cost of the Registration Number.
