ECDL CAD

What is ECDL CAD?

This module is aimed at second- and third-level students, commencing study in fields related to the architectural, engineering and construction sectors, who wish to certify their 2D CAD skills to an independent international standard.  It is also suited to those who may work in these sectors already in a non-technical capacity and who wish to acquire or certify 2D CAD skills.

Successful ECDL CAD candidates will be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the following features within common 2D CAD applications:

  • Navigate using tools and views
  • Use layers and levels
  • Draw exchange – export drawings in different file types and import other files
  • Create objects and elements, e.g. lines, rectangles, arc, polygon, hatch, etc.
  • Use selection tools
  • Manipulate objects and elements, e.g. copy, move, delete, rotate, scale, mirror, stretch, offset, explode, extend
  • Use inquiry commands, e.g. to measure distances, angles, areas
  • Set and modify properties, e.g. to change or match properties / attributes
  • Insert, create and modify text and dimensions
  • Use blocks and cells
  • Use OLE, e.g. to embed or link a file or to add a hyperlink as on object
  • Use and modify plot and print options

The ECDL CAD certification requires approximately 40-50 hours of tuition followed by successful completion of a simple 60 minutes test.

Training

  • ECDL CAD is offered to Form 5, Higher Secondary and University students during the summer holidays.
  • We also offer ECDL CAD courses and testing for the general public outside school hours. These courses can be organised on demand for groups of not less than 6 persons.

Testing

  • The ECDL CAD test is undertaken at the computer at our accredited ECDL Test Centre. Candidates are provided with a test paper that contains a set of questions. Candidates work through these questions on the computer.
  • The duration of each test is 60 minutes. No books or other help may be used during the tests.
  • The tests are marked externally by ECDL Malta.
  • The pass mark is set to be 75%.
  • Candidates failing ECDL CAD tests are allowed to retake the test at the same Test Centre. Candidates are encouraged to attempt the sample test papers before taking the test.
  • Candidates who are not satisfied with the assessment process of their ECDL WebStarter test are encouraged to discuss their concerns with the Test Centre. If they are not satisfied with the outcome of these discussions, they are encouraged to send an email/letter to ECDL Malta explaining their concerns. A fee will be charged for revision of tests.

Certification

The ECDL CAD certificate is awarded when a Candidate successfully passes the ECDL CAD test. The certificate will NOT be issued immediately by the Test Centre. ECDL Malta will issue the certificate and pass this on to the Test Centre where the test was held. Candidates will collect the certificate from the Test Centre where they had sat for their test. The fee involved in issuing the ECDL CAD certificate is incorporated in the cost of the Registration Number.
